Telling the Prince and the Pauper-styled tale of Ringo and his fictional look-a-like Ognir Rrats, whom he trades places with, this 44-minute TV musical special was narrated by George Harrison and broadcast in the US on 26 April 1978 and in the UK on 2 January 1983.
It featured Starr performing songs from his Bad Boy album and older material, including Yellow Submarine, You’re Sixteen (along with the late Carrie Fisher), With a Little Help From My Friends and Hard Times.
Among the celebrity guest stars are John Ritter, Angie Dickinson, Mike Douglas (as himself), Art Carney (as Ognir’s dad) and Vincent Price, who plays a hypnotherapist called Dr Nancy. Check out Vincent’s cameo at 30:00.

Dear Curator (Dear Peter); Why has YouTube been removing videos from your webpage? Do they hate Vincent Price for some reason? Now they have removed the “Ringo” TV special for violations of their Terms of Service. What has that got to do with the video? I don’t understand that at all. Dear Curator (Dear Peter); You may be right about the Ringo Starr video being country specific, like a DVD that is region specific. I still remember watching that special on NBC-TV back in 1978, and it was a good special about the former Beatle. I don’t worry about YouTube’s Terms of Service, I simply enjoyed watching the video when it was on YouTube, and I don’t know if they have another copy of “Ringo” for me to watch.
