The Raven (1963)

A recently widowed magician (Price) forces a small-time wizard (Peter Lorre) to help him discover whether an evil sorcerer (Boris Karloff) has taken possession of his dead wife's spirit. However, once in the clutches of Karloff, Price is forced into a magical duel. You can't really go wrong if you put Vincent Price, Peter Lorre and Boris Karloff into a cauldron, add a bosomy Hazel Court, a baby-faced Jack Nicholson and let the magical wand of Roger Corman stir. Yes! Its that all-time classic, The Raven.

Vincent is just superb as Erasmus Craven (yet again bemoaning the loss of his lovely wife - a common motive in nearly all of the Corman films.... has anybody thought about a thesis on why?) and ending up battling the evil Scarabus (Karloff) with the aid of a wise-cracking sidekick - the ever drunk Dr Bedlo (Lorre) - in a dual to the death.

Wits and wizardry run a-fowl!
