Operation Flypaper | Science Fiction Theatre (1956)

A meeting of scientists is cancelled when their equipment and documents start disappearing practically from their very hands, along with substantial amounts of time. To catch the culprit, government security sets up a phony lab with cameras to record what happens when time seems to go missing.

Operation Flypaper

This episode of Science Fiction Theatre (Season 1, Number 38) was broadcast on US TV on 14 January 1956 (although some sources list it as 3 February 1956) and co-starred George Eldredge, John Eldredge, Dabbs Greer, and Kristine Miller.

A predecessor of TV anthology shows like The Twilight Zone, Science Fiction Theatre was syndicated and broadcast from 1955 to 1957. Produced by Ivan Tors (of Flipper and Daktari fame) and Maurice Ziv, the show broadcated 78 episodes over two seasons in which the stories related to the life or work of scientists, engineers, inventors and explorers conducting all manner of scientific experiments relating to psuedo-scientific research, including space flight, robots, telepathy, flying saucers and time travel.

Famously, it was referenced in 1985’s Back to the Future as the favorite TV show of Michael J Fox’s George McFly. Hosted by radio and TV announcer, Truman Bradley, it was later syndicated under the title Beyond the Limits (possibly on the back of the popularlity of The Outer Limits).
