The Master of the World (1961)

Inspired by Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, but based on 1896's Robur le Conquerant and its 1904 sequel, Maitre du Monde, this period fantasy adventure stars Charles Bronson as a government agent who sets out with a munitions expert and his daughter to uncover the source of a mysterious voice in Pennsylvania. However, they find themselves kidnapped by the brilliant Robur who wants to end world warfare by destroying any country that refuses to law down its arms (and destroy its weapons of mass destruction) using his gigantic airship, the Albatross. After Paris, Madrid and North Africa feel his fury, Bronson hatches a plan to blow up the Albatross and save its captives.

I so want to like Vincent in his role as the masterly Robur, but he's no Captain Nemo. He gives his all, but the character is just not written well. The final scene though is worth the price of admission.

The fabulous adventures of the man who conquered the Earth to save it!

Stay tuned. A sound clip will appear here soon.
