Dragonwyck (1946)
In 1844, farmer's daughter Miranda (Gene Tierney) goes to live with her distant cousin, Nicholas Van Ryn (Vincent Price), as a companion to his daughter. But gothic melodrama ensues as Miranda soon finds some sinister going-ons in the gloomy mansion which only Nicholas calls home.
Vincent is at his best here playing the sinister lord of a Hudson River estate who is powerful enough to murder a wife who cannot provide him an heir. And his final speech is chilling. "Bow to the Patroon"
