The Bribe (1949)

Robert Taylor plays US government agent Rigby, sent to crack illicit aircraft engine trading on a Central American island. Ava Gardener is the sultry cafe singer with whom he falls for. Meanwhile, Vincent Price and Charles Laughton play the heavies trying to get him to leave. A feeble thriller whose better scenes ended up in Steve Martinžs hysterical 1982 film noir spoof, Dead Men Donžt Wear Plaid.

The best thing about this film is Vincent's fiery death scene - the first of many roles in which his character goes up in the smoke..
